Frequently Asked Question
HAVE ANY QUESTIONS?
FAQs
This is a very good question and probably the most asked. Your pet will be positioned comfortably in our laps. Gentle relaxation techniques will calm your pet down allowing them to feel safe and comfortable. Most dogs and cats are at ease with this service however, if at any point your pet becomes uncomfortable and we can not complete the cleaning you will not be charged for your visit.
Absolutely not! This is an extremely gentle procedure. We often have dogs and cats fall asleep during their cleaning.
Typically appointments are an hour in length. However this may vary depending on individual needs. Sometimes a longer or shorter appointment is required.
At your first visit we will have a thorough look at your dogs or cats teeth. Should there be any loose teeth, broken, or anything unusual we will refer you back to your vet. Sometimes it is necessary to have a cleaning done under a general anaesthetic. Other times your vet will be happy to give us the go ahead.
Generally we are able to do a very thorough job cleaning all the inside and outside surfaces of the teeth along the gum line. However this type of cleaning is not for every dog. If we notice excessive build up with very loose or broken teeth, we will refer you to your vet for a deep cleaning under a general anesthetic. Please remember that although this is a great service, we are not vets, and we do not diagnose or treat diseases.
Don’t forget to Brush those Pearly Whites!
Our pets should have their teeth cleaned just like humans. We recommend a small or medium size toothbrush and a natural pet toothpaste. Please do not use human toothpaste as they are not meant to be ingested. Our fur babies don’t know how to spit and should not have Fluoride!
As with children, most dogs and cats behave much better when their guardian is not present. We prefer to work with your pet alone as we find that they settle down and are much calmer. We can assure you that the safety and well being of your pet is always our number one concern.

Happy Hounds Teeth Cleaning Process
Pre-Cleaning Assessment
We assess each beloved pet for behaviour and have a look at their mouth to see if they are a candidate for a cosmetic cleaning.
The procedure is conducted in a calm, pet-friendly environment to reduce stress and anxiety. Plus, your pets get belly rubs from the second team member during the teeth cleaning process.
Plaque and Tartar Removal
Plaque containing bacteria and calculus (mineralized plaque) gets scaled off the teeth with the use of hand scalers.
Our technicians are highly experienced, and we have a combined 40+ years of scaling teeth. Cleaning takes about 45 minutes, and we always ensure that your dog or cat is comfortable throughout the procedure. At the end we will discuss the appointment with you and show you before and after pictures.
